Bike Classifications 1-6
The six defined bike categories (1-6) show you exactly where you can safely use your bike and where the limits lie. Each class describes the area of use and, if applicable, any unsuitability. This helps you choose the right bike for your needs.
Intended use: Suitable for use on paved roads and paths. Designed for riding at moderate speeds whilst the tyres maintain continuous contact with the ground, as well as for occasional, minor drops.
Usage notes: Optimised for urban and well-developed infrastructure areas. Use off-road or on larger drops (over approx. 15 cm) is not within the intended scope of use.
Intended use: Suitable for riding on paved and, occasionally, unpaved paths. The intended use also includes gentle ascents, descents and varying terrain.
Usage notes: Also suitable for riding on gravel and natural trails at a moderate level. The design is not intended for technically demanding terrain or larger drops (over approx. 15 cm).
Intended use: Designed for sporty riding on mixed terrain, including unpaved tracks, trails and uneven surfaces. More challenging route profiles are also part of the intended use.
Usage notes: Requires adapted riding technique on varying surfaces. Jumps and drops of up to medium heights (approx. 60 cm) are within the intended scope.
Intended use: Designed for sporty and competition-oriented riding on technically demanding trails and unpaved routes – even at higher speeds and with a dynamic riding style.
Usage notes: Offers plenty of headroom for challenging descents and higher loads. Jumps and drops of up to approximately 120 cm fall within the intended range of use. Appropriate riding technique and control are required.
Intended use: Designed for use in gravity and extreme sports, including downhill, freeride and dirt jumping. Engineered to withstand maximum loads, high speeds and big jumps.
Usage notes: Suitable for very demanding conditions involving intensive use. Advanced riding skills and complete control of the bike are required.
Intended use: Optimised for performance-oriented road cycling, including races, time trials and triathlons – with a focus on efficient power transfer and high speeds.
Usage notes: Designed for use on paved surfaces at high speeds. The design supports high-intensity sporting activities and competition-oriented applications. Not designed for demanding applications such as authorised competitive events.
